Life's Lessons

My life lesson is this:  when sharks swim toward you, swim very fast the other direction.  Don't get bogged down in useless confrontation with people who cannot possibly be convinced of your pearls of wisdom.  I suppose this is a rather cynical view, but I see so much time wasted in argument for the sake of argument rather than for true dialog approaching agreement. --Ann Ron Garner of Antiques, Herbals, Genealogy and Rare Books

I think "Destiny" IS a woman...

a friend of mine recently asked me what I had planned for Wednesday....

I chuckled to myself and said, "you know me:  I am doing what destiny plans for me!"  Now, you might say, how can Deb preach business planning and then make a comment like that.  However, a certain part of who and what we do in life seems to have been planned far in advance of the actual business plan.

I don't have all the answers of why things happen when they happen, or, how they choose to present themselves.  But, I do know we have certain circumstances pop up each day which we did not plan in advance for.  So, I act accordingly in business and in my personal life to "go with the flow of destiny and maintain a balance."

That is why I'm sure Destiny IS a woman.  A woman, as does Destiny, pops in and out of business and personal life, she mingles with friends, family, children, teachers, plumbers, mechanics.  The woman who wears many hats can't plan for the certain circumstances which pop up each day and yet she still manages it all.    I know we've all met HER... she who seems to always have everything running smoothly:  you know, the woman who has 13 kids, a husband, 2 dogs and a cat and is CEO of her own Fortune 100 company?  NOT!  I want to believe that Destiny and I have a partnership.  I do my share and SHE pops in for a visit every now and then.  So, here are a few of the ways I find my time for Destiny's visit.

I set into play many checks and balances.  I don't do much housekeeping because the household members are held accountable for their contribution to the mess.  Punishment for the crime is feared to the point of strict adherance...as one would never want to find out THE MANY IDEAS I HAVE for other projects within the family system....planned for this weekend.  Consequently, the house stays in order.

Most of the time our family has a hot meal prepared by me in the evening.  The prepared meals have a way of cooking themselves all day, with about 20 minutes of preparation time.   Because I have not found any other suitable family member to open the Nyberg family restraunt, all meals are prepared according to what I feel would taste good today.  All  diners at the Nyberg family table are required to enjoy dinner when I call them to the table, or eat peanut butter sandwiches alone.  Clean up is a breeze because we grab a plate, fork and knife and head to the stove where we fill our plates, sit down at the table, eat and load our individual plates into the dishwasher, and none of us leave the kitchen until it is cleaned.

How I do that is simple.  I delegate responsibility, and give the necessary authority to insure the task is performed without my interference.    Those tasks which require only my performance are done by me as I am to be held accountable as well.   When a task can't be accomplished by the responsibile party, trading takes place.  We set into place a comparative trade.  I will take on someone's task only if that person is willing to trade a task for one or more of mine.  If that can't be done...the trade is off.  The team is built of several players...not just one team member winning the game.

I give you these few examples of why I'm sure Destiny IS a woman because Destiny plays an important part in decisions all of us will make, or have made for us in our lifetime.  A woman plays as important a part in personal life as well as into the development of a business structure and its successful operation.  Women in Business today are finding themselves as single parents, on limited budgets, with little time.  Since time is money, organizing time is as important as organizing your business.  Teaching your employees to be accountable for their job assignment is important.  Teaching your family to be accountable for their homework assignment is equally as important.   Teaching in order to prepare for Destiny's visit is a woman's manner.

Making sure that Destiny's visit to your home and business allows for opportunities to learn and adjust according to those same downfalls in business.  A woman who lays out the clothes for the next day's needs is prepared.  A woman who purchases groceries in bulk, saves money and also is prepared.  A woman who changes the filter in the furnace on a regular basis, is prepared.  A woman who teaches her children how to prepare foods for themselves, clean their own bedrooms, be responsible for their own books and personal belongings, is prepared.  Yes, I believe Destiny IS a Woman!
